If asked to rank the seasons (which I have been asked before and have asked others) without hesitation I would say Summer, Fall, Winter and then Spring. Maybe it’s because of the unbelievably tender community over this solar eclipse, the spring fashion releases or the really shitty winter, but this spring season is growing on me.
This April playlist I made inspired by the Simon & Garfunkel song it’s titled after is also helping me enjoy the season more. That, the return of Joni Mitchell to Spotify and Chappell Roan coming out with music! Without further ado, this is what I’ve been up to in April so far.
alright, let’s f*cking gab
Josh O’Connor in La Chimera. Ever since I saw the trailer for this in January I couldn’t wait for it to be released in the US. It isn’t playing anywhere in the burbs so I took the Metro North into the city and saw it at the IFC with my dear friend Lucy! It was a lovely time and we both enjoyed it very much. It also solidified a desire in me to get a three piece linen suit.
In The Margins by Elena Ferrante in one sitting. This is a book composed of four essays about Ferrante’s writing style and process. I did not set out to finish this in one go, but it felt right, like I could get the most out of it if I consumed it in its entirety. I’ve read three of Ferrante’s fiction pieces: The Lost Daughter, The Days of Abandonment and My Brilliant Friend. I’m definitely in the minority of Ferrante fans because I prefer her earlier works over The Neapolitan Quartet, but after reading this collection of essays I want to give the Quartet another go.
Boat shoes baby. No, I haven’t been in Connecticut too long (yes I have), I’m just really excited about this and it could be a huge reason to my change of heart for the season. Spring fashion is just inspiring me lately.
called it with this TikTok and the New York Times published this piece on the matter so there is really no stopping it! I need to recreate this outfit immediately.from this instagram post Google Image Search. When I see someone online wearing something I like I rarely comment insisting they tell me where it’s from (unless I have a loose internet relationship with them) because it feels like if they wanted me to know they would make it easy for me to find it, ya know. They all have their little affiliate links in some place and if I can’t find the exact link I’ll just save it for inspiration. Lately though, I’ve been reverse image searching and it’s honestly a game changer! Not only can it give you the exact piece, but you can find it on reselling sites/second hand versions for a good price! A la this TikTok: “googlette!”
image from @harmonyyoungs on instagram and this Sezane necklace I found that looks just like it Are there any music focused substacks you guys read? Pitchfork closing down is old news, but where are all the music review voices going? I follow a plethora of substacks covering fashion, books, movies, cooking, but not one that covers new music.
Fresh journal pages. Another reason Spring could be growing on me is because of my April journal spread. Yes, I still make these.
Yes, I judge a book by it’s cover. But, the blurbs on the back of these sound good too.
Halloween costume idea if you’re a hot guy. Johnny Depp in this specific outfit in Nightmare on Elm Street which I watched for the first time this week. Incredible 80’s special effects and romantic teen relationships, you guys should watch.
Trying a new look for the stack. This is much more legible and has fun icons I want to play around with.
Okay that’s all for today! I love you guys!! Do you guys love spring??
XX,
Gabbie
