In 2024 I’m buying one clothing/accessory a month and one beauty/skincare/hair product a month. I wouldn’t classify my shopping habits as anything crazy, but I do think ~as a society~ we have become too comfortable with buying more than we actually need (or honestly even want) which is why I’m challenging myself to shop differently for the next 7 (now 6) months.
If this shopping philosophy inspires you, or you just want more ideas of what you can spend your money on (the exact opposite of my intentions, but to each their own), consider subscribing! I’ll make it super for easy for you! Here:
So guys, long time no see! I had a very busy June and the highlight obviously has to be my birthday and therefore, the shopping philosophy slightly went out the window. Only just a little bit. I’ll show you all the three things I bought and about the “fashion app” I’ve had on my phone for months, but only just started using that I’m already obsessed with.
let’s f*cking gab
Sinclaire Shirt in Navy, The Frankie Shop, $155 — I know a button down can so easily be thrifted, but to find the perfect oversized boxy style we all want is much harder than that and so I want this one.
Roxana Skirt in Grey, soeur, $350 — This skirt is a two for one, which with girl math means it’s 50% off. It both a cute mini skirt and a sheer long skirt over top in the most perfect purple grey color. I want to try it on.
Cotton Towelling Stripe, Paul Smith, $119 — Do I own a robe? No. Do I feel it is something I need? Not particularly. But I saw this one and thought it was so beautiful so now I need a robe.
Sun Bracelet, Yam, $46 — You’ll quickly see that I have obtained a bracelet obsession and I’m looking to slowly grow the stack. I love to mix and match and I think this bracelet from Yam could be a great step in that direction.
Silver Cuff, eBay, $29.99 — The cutout details here are so fun.
Tuesday Unisex Bracelet, Janset Bilgin, $50 — I actually want one of every single bracelet on this website. The color pairings are beautiful and the hardware on each of them is so unique.
Stackable Bangle, eBay, $19.99 — I’m reading and watching Anthony Bourdain’s A Cook’s Tour. He wears a silver bangle and I want to match.
Blue Bead Red String Bracelet, Etsy, $19 — This came up as recommended on Etsy, which for some reason I don’t find trustworthy, but I do think it’s really cute.
Work Jacket, Alex Mill, $195 — A blue chore jacket is always on my mind and I’ve seen this Alex Mill one recommended by a few people, so I’m cataloguing it here otherwise I will forget.
Leather Boat Shoes, Mango, $139.99 — The boat shoe want persists. These mango ones have the exact same shape and vibe as the Miu Miu ones, just without the logo, which dare I say is better.
Boat Neck Dress, Los Angeles Apparel, $42 — I’ve been looking for a white cotton baby doll dress and I really liked this one I saw on Lindsey’s Instagram.
Jo Sandal, Tkees, $95 — The ultimate strappy sandal. If I could get this in brown I would have already purchased it.
Red Hot Hoop, Yam NYC, $140 — If you couldn’t tell I love Yam and I love red and blue together.
Ralph Lauren Black Shorts, eBay, $12.99 — Abby visited me for my birthday and she had this really cute pair of black Ralph Lauren shorts and so I ran to eBay to find myself a pair. This I will not link because I do want to buy them myself, sorry.
Glass Hand-Beaded Bag, eBay, $20 — And this yellow bag doesn’t have a link because I did indeed buy this one. And now we’ll get into the other things I bought this month.
My birthday present was a six month purchase in the making. Back in January I found the link to this woven bag I’ve had on my Pinterest board multiple times. It’s something I’ve tried thrifting before and have even found “dupes” for it on Etsy and Madewell, but I knew that none of it would scratch the itch like the real one. In March I decided that I should buy this for my 24th birthday. It is only something available for pre-order and ships from Australia. I checked this link every day for weeks and on June 1st it became available and I quickly entered my card information and a 15% off code for first purchases (thank god) and patiently waited!

I also bought this watch at a flea market after just saying last month that I wanted a more “masculine” watch. And I bought this beaded bag on eBay because the seller sent me a great offer and if I lost it I would have been sad. And there will be no birthday girl tears, so I had to buy a second bag this month. Obviously.

In addition to these purchases this month I’ve also started using the Indyx app to catalogue my clothing and outfits. I know this sounds absurd, but if you enjoy getting dressed and seeing how much you use the pieces in your closet, I think you too are crazy enough to use this app. It’s also been super helpful in cleaning out my closet. As I’ve been cataloging my wardrobe I can see whether or not the piece is worth the time to enter into my Clueless Closet™️ and if it’s not then why am I holding on to it?
I talked a little bit about this in my “January Wishlist Additions” post, which explains why I decided to take on this one piece a month philosophy, and curate a closet of clothing I’m excited to wear. I think I’ll write a more in-depth Substack about my experience with cataloging and if I keep up with it. (Oh, and there is a three style word quiz on the app which I’ve always been skeptical about, but I kinda liked my quiz results: classic, cool and androgynous.)
Talk soon!!
Xx,
Gabbie
Hello gab!!
I was waiting for this post!! I adore the bags you bought this month. I have come to realize that I am a bag lady and like to have lots of options. Your special birthday bag is so freaking beautiful I’m obsessed! And the beaded one is gorgeous too!
I wanted to mention that Amsterdam thrift stores are absolutely full on blue chore jackets, which is where I got mine. Sadly I left that in a hotel room last year and am always missing it. Oh well now I have an excuse to go back to Amsterdam.
Anyway I love you and your cool, classic and androgynous style
Xxx
Marcella
P.s. see you soon ;)
