As the marketing of the new slasher movie Thanksgiving will let you know, there aren’t many official Thanksgiving movies. However!! There is Greg Mottola’s directorial debut (later, director of Super Bad) The Daytrippers.
The entire movie takes place over one day, specifically the day after Thanksgiving (making it a Thanksgiving movie, okay!!). That morning Eliza (Hope Davis) finds what looks like a mysterious love letter addressed to her husband Louis (Stanley Tucci!) on their bedroom floor. Immediately, she drives over to her parents house in Long Island where her sister Jo (Parker Posey!!!!) is staying for the holidays with her boyfriend, Carl (Liev Schreiber); in separate beds of course. Their mother Rita (Anne Meara) thinks it’s best Eliza talk to Louis in person, so they pile into their used Buick Estate Wagon and drive into the city to track him down. What ensues is a hilarious team effort to discover who the author of this letter is and what it means for Eliza’s marriage.
Each of these characters just hit home, making it the perfect holiday watch. You’ve got all the family dynamics in here, mother-daughter, mom-dad, mom-son-in-law, and best of all sister-sister. On top of that, it has the comfort movies made in the early 90’s all naturally seem to have. I really can’t recommend it enough, it’s definitely my favorite Thanksgiving movie.

Other Thanksgiving watches include: any Gilmore Girls episode, The Middle’s Thanksgiving episodes and Stuck In Love.
Happy Thanksgiving! let’s f*cking gab
#1 Autumn by Ali Smith. I picked up this copy over the summer so that I could start reading this seasonal quartet in time with the changing seasons. It’s unlike any book I’ve read before. The time line bounces between past, present and dream world; each from Daniel’s and Elisabeth’s different perspectives. Daniel is Elisabeth childhood neighbor and in the modern time line — the UK in 2015 — Daniel is a wise-man of 101 years old. He’s full of interesting stories that end up permeating Elisabeth’s life; the real stories and the dream ones. Smith’s writing style is so unique, sometimes feeling like a children’s book and other times reading like poetry. I’m looking forward to the changing of the seasons so I can read more of her writing.
#2 I bought a full length wool coat on eBay and I love it. I was really tempted to get the COS coat that’s upwards of $300, but it’s already sold out, a blessing honestly. This led me to an eBay hunt. I wanted something with buttons that went all the way up to the top and no belt or weird embellishments. I bought mine for $60 and its 90% wool 10% cashmere! Here's another similar one.
#3 Has anyone else been seeing those TikToks of Lauren Graham playing celebrity poker? I’m obsessed with them.
#4 Molly Baz’s pea pasta. This was good, but does not make good leftovers. Don’t know if I would make it again.
#5 Summer Fridays balms. They’re $24 which is insane and not worth it. Don’t buy one.
#6 I saw the aforementioned slasher Thanksgiving starring Addison Rae and Patrick Dempsey. It was a fun time, something silly to add to the holiday viewing list.
#7 I completed one of The Vulture 10X10 puzzles for the first time. I’m proud of myself.
#8 A Canadian tuxedo is the perfect Thanksgiving attire.
Before I go eat an inhumane amount of food I want to say that I’m thankful for you: whoever is reading this!
Xx,
Gabbie
